Anoreta Golf Course
Designed by the famous Ryder cup player Jose Maria Canizares. The par is 72 and is 5883 m for amateurs. The course has many water features and notably the 7th par 4 with a lake in the middle of the fareway. Out of the 18 holes water is on 11. The 17th has water on 3 sides of the green making the approach a tricky shot in. Anoreta offers a challenging and exciting level for all types of golfers. Its fast rolling greens, cleverly positioned bunkers and water usually demands the use of most of your clubs. Average cost is £60 for two golfers and buggy.
Club de Golf La Canada
Opened in 1982 designed by Robert Trent Jones and Dave Thomas, Club de Golf La Canada is nestled between the Mediterranean and the mountains. The challenging, sloping fareways and small fast greens make this a course to be thought about as you go round. The views of the Med and surrounding areas are breathtaking. A thoroughly good test for all skills. The new Andalucian style clubhouse holds a beautiful array of photographs of the golf courses past. On average a round of golf is £45.
Estepona Golf Course
This course lies on the undulating Spanish countryside with fantastic views over the Mediterranean. The course is a good test for all standards of golfers. The greens are well renowned for their superb consistency and have a number of good par 3 holes which require a lot of thought before playing. i.e club selection. One of the best par 4s on the coast is the short par 4 tenth hole. At only 250m from an elevated tee and almost surrounded by water, it is the temptation and the ruination of many score cards. On average a round of golf is £49.
La Cala Asia and Europa.
The Asia course was one of the first built and at 5925m is a good test. The hilly site (not for the faint hearted) with many bunkers on the fareways and round the greens makes for a very enjoyable and thoughtful round. On average a round of golf for 2 with buggy will be £75. The Europa golf course meanders around the Ojen river and 8 of the 18 holes are situated next to it. The fareways and greens are slightly larger than most which makes life a little easier. Designer Cabell Robinson said the new course is not just dramatic but an easier course for the higher handicap golfer. On average a round of golf is £74 with a shared buggy.
Los Flamingos Golf Course
One of our favourites. This course takes its name from the Los Flamencos lake which the course is designed around. It has stunning views of the Mediterranean . The latter end of the back 9 is slightly hillier than the rest so a buggy is advisable but the course is a good mixture of holes long and short and is a good test for the experienced golfer. On average a round of golf is £78 and you will require a handicap certificate.
Los Naranjos Golf Course.
This course it not just one of the Costa del Sol's best, but one of the best in Spain, and is highly recommended to add to your list. It features wide and inviting fareways with strategically placed bunkers and water hazards leading to a most exciting round of golf. Lined by orange trees and beautiful landscaped areas this makes for an interesting round. Look out for the water feature at the 18th. On average a round of golf is £65 including buggy.
Marbella golf and country club Golf Course.
As the name signifies, this is a quality course. A very difficult but enjoyable course. Every hole is different and careful club selection a necessity. Strategically placed bunkers and impressive lakes lead to an exciting round for all standards. On average a round of golf is £65 with shared buggy.
Mijas Los Olivos golf course.
This course is one of the oldest on the Costa del Sol but just as impressive as the rest. This course can be easily walked and is slightly shorter than most but still needs good straight drives and accurate approach shots. The first hole is a good dog leg to the left with an elevated green and a hole you can open your shoulders on. Distances can be deceptive so club selection is important. This course is enjoyable and fun for all standards. On average a round of golf is negotiable and POA.
Miraflores.
This course is shorter again than most and for the front 9 lined by villas and apartments. The back 9 opens out better and gives you more room. A lot of dog legs and irons from the tees give you the best positions. A good test of golf. The first hole with its high elevated tee makes for an interesting opener. On average a round of golf is £40 and £90 for two with a shared buggy.
Rio Real Golf Course.
The closest to a links course on the Costa del Sol. The course is designed through a valley and gently undulating hills. The course is a great test but with its wide fareways and flat greens make this a course you can score well on. Look out for the long par 4th with its spectacular views out to sea. On average a round of golf is negotiable and POA.
Sotogrande.
Say no more, this masterpiece was created by the famous Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1964 and is classed as one of the best in Spain. In 2011 it was restored and is classed as a must to play. Not cheap but if you want to play the best, say no more. On average a round of golf costs £180.
Santa Clara Golf Course.
This is a challenging golf course, the layout is superb and built round the natural environment. sSme of the fareways are close so accuracy is a must. You start easily but soon start to rise over the hills and with several lakes and plentiful white bunkers makes for a challenge for all types.
Santa Maria Golf Course.
As it says in the name, Santa Maria sent this as a present for all Costa del Sol golfers. This course runs through two valleys with great views out to sea. This course in our opinion suits all types. It is a good scoring course and high to medium handicappers will score well on it. A buggy though is a must. On average a round of golf will cost £62.
Santana Golf course.
This golf course is set in a former avocado plantation and has wide fareways and well defined roughs with approachable greens. This course has been designed to create a hole by hole challenge even to the lower handicapper. All the fareways and greens are protected by bunkers, and lakes are strategically laid out to catch you. On average a round of golf is £65.
Valderrama Golf Club.
THE GEM. It is the number one golf course in Europe and for the dedicated golfer a must. Very difficult to get a slot to play but not impossible. It held the Ryder Cup in 1977 and the World Golf Championship in 2000.This course is one with perfection with its cascading water fall on the 4th by the green to the famous par 5 17th hole with is forwarded sloping green surrounded by bunkers and water, feared by all standard of golfers, professionals as well. On average a round of golf is POA. You are also required to have a handicap certificate and hire a forecaddy per tee time.( On average and extra £60).
